Woodland Trails

The Trails at Fox Ridge
120 acres with miles of private trails at Fox Ridge Bed & Breakfast offer guests a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The main trails meander through the deciduous and conifer forests with occasional meadows and small open spaces. The land is quite uneven but the main trails are wide and easy to walk. Deeper in the woods the trails are more rugged for those who wish to explore. Many spring-fed streams traverse the property with small waterfalls and rock outcropping.

The area has unique and interesting topographical features – eskers, moraines and limestone outcropping formed by the last glacier as it receded northward. The rich, well drained soil nourishes the abundant sugar maple, tulip, white ash and basswood trees. Red oak, black cherry, butternut, aspen, hemlock, bitternut hickory, black locust, hackberry and hop hornbeam occur in lesser quantities. Small patches of Norway spruce, white pines, red pines, Austrian pines, white spruce, Douglas fir, balsam fir and Japanese larch were all planted on abandoned pasture land some 35 years ago.

There is an abundance of wildlife here, especially deer, wild turkeys, grouse, squirrels, rabbits, and a vast collection of songbirds.

A trail map is available to help as a guide. Several specimen trees are marked for identification along the main trail. Some trails are groomed in the winter for cross country skiing.
